Since L was about 18 months I started to encourage her to learn numbers in a fun way, I would hold her with one arm and with other prepare her breakfast whilst counting how many spoons of porridge I put in her bowl. It seems to do the trick, she would repeat the words or noises how I call it and next time would shout out the one she remembers. I cannot wait until she can write the numbers as I have some more fun activities for her.
Today I have an exciting giveaway for boys and girls ready to learn maths in a fun way and like a bit of a challenge- a recently launched HappyCalc space themed maths puzzle worth $39.
"HappyCalc is a new unique puzzle that teaches kids their numbers from 1 to 10 in a fun and engaging way. We do it infilormally all the time -paying for things in the shop counting different things when we are out and about and of course the formal homework
ReplyDeleteWe do all sorts from learning to write and her ABCs and of course counting, i think it is important to start early, but always make a game out of learning, but never push
ReplyDeleteI like the everyday educating, not a particular activity, things like how many cars are parked, how much are the bananas, what's the shop called, etc, etc
ReplyDeleteTelling them name of object and getting them to repeat it xxx
ReplyDeleteTeaching the alphabet by always saying the letter first and the word. Colours of toys.
ReplyDeleteWe love to play dominoes and cards, great for practical maths, baking, great for estimating, calculating and weights.
ReplyDeleteWe make writing and colours fun. :) We have a day where they pick a colour and have to find 10 (or whatever) items that colour so they are counting and doing colours at the time. Although picking black was a bad idea when you've got a dog who is black but too bit to carry about. Also we have a writing class where my great-niece will be teacher and we deliberately write things wrong so she corrects us. :)
ReplyDeletemy daughter is 11months and we do lots of counting and reading and lots of her toys have numbers and letters associated to them
ReplyDeleteWe love playing games such as scrabble and junior scrabble which help with words and vocabulary as well as counting games and memory games.
ReplyDeleteWe play counting games

When my son was about 4, I bought a times table poster for his room and we used to go through those and this really helped him when he started school. He's 9 now and can tell you his timestables quick as anything. My daughter is 20 months and we are trying to get her to count at the moment but she isn't really speaking well yet.
